    The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department offers Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) to patients 16 years of age and older with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) across five Health Care Centers (HCCs) with locations in Carpinteria, Lompoc, Santa Maria, and two sites in Santa Barbara. Services are offered on a sliding fee scale, and the health care centers accept Medi-Cal/CenCal.

    Services Offered
    Primary Care Providers (PCP) at the 5 health care centers provide MAT treatment utilizing a Team-Based Care approach. The PCP works alongside a Registered Nurse, Medical Assistant, and Administrative Assistant, with the goal to ensure the individual has the support to maintain frequent, regular follow up with the PCP. In addition, the PCP partners with an on-site Behavior Health Specialist for cognitive behavioral therapy; a Registered Dietitian to provide nutritional guidance, and a Pharmacist to facilitate receipt of the prescribed medication. The HCCs provide comprehensive services, and have ongoing regular long-term monitoring through regular checkups, providing early detection of relapse, reduced time to retreatment and improved long term outcomes.

  • Substance Use Disorder Wellness and Recovery Access Point (SUD WRAP)

    SUD WRAP provides MAT (medications for addiction treatment) to individuals of all ages experiencing an Alcohol Use Disorder or Opioid Use Disorder. We are outpatient by appointment only and can provide care coordination services to link clients to any additional services that would be of benefit in their treatment.

    Payments Accepted: Services are billed to Medi-Cal insurance and will be free of charge to the Medi-Cal beneficiary.

    The Lompoc Valley Medical Center (LVMC) Emergency Department provides bridge prescriptions of Suboxone for individuals with opioid use disorders that desire recovery.  Depending on the patient’s last use and severity of symptoms, patients will be either treated with a dose of Buprenorphine in the hospital or written a prescription with instructions on how to self-start from home, microdose/cross taper and avoid precipitated withdrawal. Due to the high demand of MAT services and wait times to be seen, LVMC ED providers write a two- to three-week Bridge Suboxone prescription for patients that want to start MAT.

    Patients are educated on outpatient options available in the Lompoc area for continued MAT management and encouraged to make an appointment with a provider as soon as possible.

    Other services:

    Behavioral Health Services. Patients can be referred to Lompoc Health Behavioral Health for an assessment with a clinician where they will either continue to be seen or referred to another local therapist, dependent upon the patient’s needs. 

    Recovery Services.  The ED Patient Navigator is a Certified Peer Support Specialist who serves patients in all areas of the hospital and also meets with patients in the outpatient setting for peer support, motivational interviewing and linkages to continued care.

    YOR Place provides youth-driven community outreach, drop-in services, and access to prevention, intervention, treatment, medication for addiction treatment (MAT), and recovery services for youth (ages 12-24) who are misusing opioids and/or stimulants.

    Our pioneering psychiatry and alcohol and drug dependency programs have been dedicated to the most effective and dignified treatment of mental health, alcohol and drug dependency, and co-occurring disorders since 1975.

    Services Offered

    We offer a comprehensive range of services to best suit our patients’ needs and circumstances, including acute inpatient psychiatry and detoxification; residential alcohol, drug, and co-occurring disorders; rehabilitation; and several levels of outpatient treatment services in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.

    Approach to Care

    Our approach to care is integrative, family-oriented, and culturally sensitive. Treatment plans support each person’s specific needs and include treatment modalities for dual diagnosis to address those with both psychiatric and chemical dependency needs.

    Payments Accepted: The costs of our programs are reimbursable by most individual and group insurance plans. Affordable private pay plans are also offered to those without insurance coverage.

    The Bridge Clinic is a collaboration between partnership between Cottage Health and SBNC, designed to serve patients from Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and community clinics who are diagnosed with substance use disorders. The Bridge Clinic provides treatment on demand for opioid and other substance use disorders with walk-in availability in a primary care setting directly across from Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

    The Bridge Clinic responds to the full range of patient needs including:

    • Substance Use Disorder Treatment
    • Psychiatric and Psychotherapeutic Treatment
    • Medical Treatment
    • Pain Management
    • Psychosocial Resources

    Patient services include physician evaluation and treatment, including medications for addiction treatment; social work counseling and case management; flexible follow-up including daily visits and tele-health if needed; and connection to community resources, including residential and outpatient treatment programs.

    The Center offers a comprehensive assessment to help clients and their families determine the type of treatment plan that’s right for them. Clients assessed as having an opioid use disorder who are interested in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) will be referred to a partnering clinic or physician for further assessment. They can then enroll in the Center’s treatment programs to help support their recovery while receiving MAT.
