Sanctuary Centers provides comprehensive treatment programming to individuals diagnosed with a substance use disorder and a mental illness. Please Note: Sanctuary Centers is not a detox, drug rehabilitation facility, or a sober living home.

At Sanctuary Centers, we treat substance abuse disorders only as they co-occur with a mental illness. A substance abuse disorder is a recurrent use of alcohol and/or drugs that causes significant impairment. These impairments can take the form of health problems, disability, and/or failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school, or home. We focus on treating addiction and substance abuse disorders at Sanctuary Centers by developing client treatment plans around mental health issues, with an eye toward relapse prevention by helping clients develop skills to manage cravings, triggers and other symptoms unique to individuals diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. Additionally, expressive therapies (art, music, writing, poetry, etc.) are incorporated into our group and individual sessions.

At Sanctuary Centers, we know that treatment of a co-occurring disorder requires addressing the issues of both the mental illness and the substance use disorder. That is why our Co-Occurring Disorders program focuses on treating addiction and substance use disorders by developing client treatment plans that also address mental health issues. Our services, which include both group and individual counseling, tackle both disorders head-on. With an eye toward relapse prevention, we help clients develop skills to manage cravings, triggers, and other symptoms unique to individuals diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. Beyond that, our program also encourages involvement in the community, as well as the building of a relationship with a Sponsor.

Our clients with a co-occurring disorder carry extra burdens and face additional challenges not seen with mental illness alone. With proper treatment, support, and commitment, we believe our clients can achieve and maintain a successful recovery.
